What It Does
The Carrier Policy Scanner checks a campaign against the published requirements of the major US mobile carriers. Each carrier enforces the CTIA guidelines through its own code of conduct, and the rules differ in detail: content categories that are restricted, how a use case is expected to read, and how aggressively traffic is filtered.
The scanner returns the carrier-specific requirements that apply to the use case you select, and flags content that falls into restricted categories such as SHAFT (sex, hate, alcohol, firearms, tobacco) before a Direct Connect Aggregator or carrier reviewer sees it.
Who It Is For
- Teams preparing a first campaign submission
- Senders whose campaign was rejected for content or use-case reasons
- Agencies that file for clients in several verticals
Inputs
| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
carriers | array | Optional | Carriers to check, for example verizon, att, tmobile. All major US carriers are checked when omitted. |
useCase | string | Optional | Campaign use case type, for example marketing. |
Outputs
- Carrier-specific requirements for the selected carriers and use case
- Flags for restricted content categories
- Standard response fields: success, tool, tokenUsed, balanceAfter, results
Worked Example
From the MyTCRPlus API documentation. The request is sent to POST /v1/tools/carrier-scanner; the web tool in the Compliance Suite takes the same inputs.
Request
{
"carriers": [
"verizon",
"att",
"tmobile"
],
"useCase": "marketing"
}
The response returns the fields listed under Outputs.
Cost
1 token per scan. Tool tokens are bought once, work across all 16 web tools, and never expire, and a free token is added every day. Tool tokens cost $3.50 to $5.00 each, depending on pack size. Compliance API calls use separate API tokens ($0.50 to $0.90 each), and professional users and resellers can ask about an optional monthly token plan.
How to Run It
- Open the Carrier Policy Scanner in the Compliance Suite and sign in, or create an account.
- Enter the inputs listed above and run the tool. One token is deducted per run unless noted under Cost.
- For automation, call
POST /v1/tools/carrier-scanneronhttps://api.mytcrplus.com/v1with a JWT bearer token. See the API documentation.
FAQ
Which carriers does the Carrier Policy Scanner cover?
The API accepts a list of carriers such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. If you do not pass a list, all major US carriers are checked.
Does passing the scanner guarantee carrier approval?
No. TCR, the Direct Connect Aggregators and the carriers keep full discretion over approval and filtering. The scanner reduces avoidable content and use-case errors before submission.
What is SHAFT content?
SHAFT stands for sex, hate, alcohol, firearms and tobacco. Carriers restrict these categories on 10DLC, and some require age gating or a special use case. Cannabis and several other categories are also restricted by carrier policy.
How much does a scan cost?
One token per scan. Tokens are bought once, work across all MyTCRPlus tools, and do not expire. A daily free token is available.
Can I run the scanner from my own software?
Yes. The same scan is available as POST /v1/tools/carrier-scanner on the MyTCRPlus REST API with JWT authentication.
