10DLC Registration

10DLC registration is the brand and campaign filing path for US Application-to-Person SMS. Learn requirements, process, cost, and timelines.

READ TIME: 7 MIN SECTION: 10DLC REGISTRATION STATUS: VERIFIED 2026

10DLC registration is the two-part identity and program filing required to send Application-to-Person (A2P) SMS from a 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC) in the United States. The Campaign Registry (TCR) records the brand, then records each campaign. Carriers use those records to filter, throttle, or deliver traffic.

Unregistered or misaligned filings produce blocks, low throughput, and repeated resubmissions. Validated documentation is designed to reduce that rejection risk. This guide maps the live process, fees, timelines, and documentation stack without treating any platform as the Campaign Service Provider (CSP) of record.

What 10DLC Registration Covers

10DLC is the A2P framework for local 10-digit numbers. Person-to-person (P2P) traffic is not the same class. Business programs that send appointment reminders, one-time passcodes, account alerts, or marketing texts fall under A2P.

Registration has two layers.

Brand registration identifies the legal entity. TCR stores the legal name, Employer Identification Number (EIN) or sole-proprietor identifier, website, address, and contact data. TCR then assigns a trust score from 0 to 100.

Campaign registration describes one messaging program under that brand. The filing states the use case, sample messages, opt-in method, opt-out language, and supporting URLs.

Both layers must be complete before carriers treat the traffic as registered A2P. TCR and the mobile network operators retain discretion on approval and throughput.

Why Carriers Require the Filing

Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association (CTIA) rules and carrier codes of conduct treat unregistered A2P as high-risk. T-Mobile, AT&T, and Verizon use TCR records to score sender identity and program purpose.

Without a current brand and campaign record, carriers can:

  • Block or grey-filter messages
  • Cap throughput far below approved campaign rates
  • Suspend the sending number or the brand
  • Share enforcement signals across networks

Registered programs can reach higher throughput. High trust scores are associated with up to 4,500 messages per minute per campaign. That ceiling is carrier-controlled. It is not a platform guarantee.

Brand Registration Inputs

Prepare documents before the CSP submits the brand. Exact-match data is the first control.

  • Legal name matching IRS or state records
  • EIN for standard brands, or the sole-proprietor identifier the CSP accepts
  • Primary website with working contact information
  • Privacy policy and terms that disclose SMS use
  • Physical business address
  • Authorized contact email and phone
  • Industry vertical that matches the real operation

Domain age of six months or more, a D-U-N-S number filed before registration, and consistent review presence are common trust-score levers. EIN, legal name, and domain mismatches are a frequent brand-rejection pattern.

Use a brand-consistency check before the CSP posts the record. Correct the public site first. Do not change the legal name mid-review.

Campaign Registration Inputs

Each campaign is a separate program. Do not combine unrelated use cases on one record.

Required campaign fields typically include:

  • TCR use-case category
  • Campaign description of at least 40 characters
  • Two sample messages that include opt-out language
  • Opt-in method and proof of consent capture
  • HELP and STOP flows
  • Privacy policy URL and terms URL
  • Call-to-action language that matches the live form or keyword flow

Use-case misalignment is a common rejection driver. A marketing blast filed as 2FA will fail Direct Connect Aggregator (DCA) review. Select the use case that matches the actual traffic, then keep sample copy inside that purpose.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) still governs consent even after TCR approval. Express written consent is required for marketing. Consent records should retain timestamp, timezone, source, exact language, and recipient response for four or more years.

10DLC Registration Process

  1. Choose a CSP. Twilio, Bandwidth, RingCentral, Vonage, Sinch, Telnyx, and other providers submit through TCR. mytcrplus.com does not file as the CSP of record.
  2. Assemble brand documents and confirm public-site alignment.
  3. Submit brand registration and wait for the trust score.
  4. Select the campaign use case and draft samples, descriptions, and opt-in evidence.
  5. Submit the campaign. Standard use cases enter DCA review. Special use cases can add mobile network operator review.
  6. Provision approved numbers only after both records show an approved status.
  7. Monitor opt-out handling, content drift, and carrier policy updates.

A provider checklist by CSP reduces skipped fields. A message validator and consent-language check should run on every sample before submission.

How Long 10DLC Registration Takes

Brand registration often completes in 1–3 business days when the entity data is clean. Campaign review commonly runs 1–10 business days and depends on trust score and use case. Trust scores under 50 often move to manual review of 7–10 business days.

Plan three to four weeks for first programs. Disputes, website edits during review, and special-use-case scrutiny extend that window. Carriers and TCR keep final timing discretion.

10DLC Registration Cost

TCR and CSP fees are separate from diagnostic-platform fees.

Industry TCR charges commonly cited for standard programs:

  • About $4 one-time for standard brand registration
  • About $10–$15 per month per standard campaign
  • Higher enhanced-vetting fees when the CSP or TCR requires them
  • Resubmission fees after a rejected campaign, often cited around $40 or more

CSP markup, number rental, and messaging rates sit on top of those registry fees. Confirm the live CSP invoice before budgeting.

10DLC Registration Requirements Checklist

  • United States A2P program on 10-digit long codes
  • Legal entity able to pass identity checks
  • Website, privacy policy, and terms that support the SMS disclosure
  • Documented opt-in that matches the campaign description
  • STOP, HELP, and frequency language in samples
  • Use case that matches live traffic
  • No SHAFT content: Sex, Hate, Alcohol, Firearms, Tobacco
  • No extended restricted categories the destination carrier prohibits, including cannabis and many debt-repair or get-rich-quick programs

Canada does not use the same TCR 10DLC regime. A Canada question is a different national framework.

After Approval

Approval is not the end of the program. Carriers continue to score complaint rates, opt-out timing, and content drift.

Keep these controls live:

  • Process STOP within the carrier window, commonly treated as near-real-time
  • Retain consent artifacts for four or more years
  • Re-validate copy when legal, offer, or frequency language changes
  • Watch trust-score movement after complaints or brand data changes
  • Re-file a new campaign when the use case changes

A compliance calendar and a diff check on revised templates support that monitoring work.

Tools That Support the Filing

mytcrplus.com is a documentation and diagnostic platform. It is not a CSP and does not transmit messages.

Relevant Suite v7.0 surfaces:

API pass-through endpoints at https://api.mytcrplus.com/v1 forward TCR calls with credentials the user stores. The platform does not become the CSP of record.

FAQ

Is 10DLC registration required for US A2P SMS?

Yes for business A2P traffic on 10-digit long codes. Carriers treat unregistered A2P as non-compliant and can block or throttle it. Exact enforcement remains carrier-controlled.

What is the difference between brand and campaign registration?

Brand registration identifies the legal sender. Campaign registration describes one messaging program under that brand. Both records are required.

Can I register without a third party?

TCR access for most brands runs through a CSP. Documentation and diagnostics can be prepared independently. The CSP still submits the live filing.

How long does 10DLC registration take?

Clean brand filings often finish in 1–3 business days. Campaign review often runs 1–10 business days. Manual review and special use cases take longer.

Does approval guarantee deliverability?

No. TCR and carriers retain discretion. Content, consent, complaint rate, and later policy changes still affect delivery.
